Frequently asked questions

Is my journal private?

Yes. Your entries are stored in an encrypted database on your device (SQLCipher, AES‑256). Cloud sync is optional and off until you turn it on; even then, data travels over an encrypted connection. We never sell your data or use your journal to train AI models.

Do I need an account?

You can use Retrouse locally without syncing, but an account is required to sync across devices and to use cloud features. Your login account is your sync account.

How do I sign in?

Use your email (we send a one‑time code) or a social sign‑in (Google, Microsoft, or Apple). You can add a password later from your account settings.

What are Rouse, Retro, Stamp, and Scope?

• Rouse = what's ahead (plans/intentions).
• Retro = what happened (journal + reflections).
• Stamp = your labels for finding and grouping entries.
• Scope = insights, stats, goals, and habits.

How does the AI assistant work?

It helps you reflect — suggesting prompts, summarising a timeframe, and deepening a thought. Depending on your settings it runs on‑device or via our service, and only the text you send for a given action is processed. It's a companion, not medical or professional advice.

Can I use Retrouse offline?

Yes. Retrouse is local‑first: writing, browsing, and searching work offline. Sync and cloud AI resume when you're back online.

How do I back up my journal?

Connect Google Drive in Account → Integrations to create an encrypted, password‑protected backup of your whole database, and restore it on any device with the same password. You can also export your data from the app.

How do I connect my calendar or notes?

Go to Account → Integrations and connect Google/Microsoft Calendar, Microsoft To‑Do, or OneNote. You choose what to import, and you can disconnect anytime.

How do I lock the app?

In Account → Privacy set a passcode and, if your device supports it, enable biometrics. You can require the lock on launch.

What do I get with a paid plan?

Paid plans (e.g. Gold) unlock more assistant usage, larger attachment storage, and additional features. Free covers everyday journaling. Manage plans in Account → Subscription.

How do I delete my account?

Open Account → Manage account → Delete account. This removes your synced content and attachments from our systems (short‑lived backups age out on a rolling schedule). This can't be undone, so export first if you want a copy.
